Modern Solutions to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Waste Management
Thursday December 1, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Salle des Saules in Complexe Desjardins, the Centre d’expertise sur les matières résiduelles invites you to come and meet the Canadian experts working towards reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of landfill and incineration sites.
Waste disposal through burial or incineration is a significant challenge for our consumer society.
On one hand, landfills produce more than 25% of the methane emissions attributable to human activities in Canada, releasing more than one million tonnes of this greenhouse gas into the atmosphere each year. The impact of methane on global warming is 21 times more significant than that of carbon dioxide.
On the other hand, incinerators produce one equivalent tonne of CO2 for each tonne of wasted burned.
In the past few years, modern and innovative technologies have been developed to capture these greenhouse gases. Conclusive Canadian studies will be presented at this conference.
Participants include: - Hubert Bourque, President, Landfill Gas Industrial Alliance, Montréal (Québec)
- Guy Drouin, President, Gazmont, Montréal (Québec) PowerPoint presentation
- Dave McLennan, Highland Energy, Bedford (Nova Scotia)
