ODOTECH
inc.
Background
A
spin-off of École Polytechnique de Montréal, ODOTECH
designs and manufactures odor measuring and monitoring systems.
It carries out odor diagnosis and other odor-related studies
for governments, waste disposal and waste water treatment operators,
industries and other organizations facing odor issues.
Based on its leading-edge technologies and the support of a
multidisciplinary team of specialists, the company offers cost-effective,
efficient solutions for managing odors in the industrial, municipal
and institutional sectors.
Main Activities
In the field, ODOTECH must deal with a broad variety of odor
problems. In order to characterize and quantify them, ODOTECH
has developed leading-edge instruments and systems : OdoFlux™
sampling chamber, Odile™ olfactometer, Tropos Impact©
atmospheric dispersion modeling software, OdoWatch™ electronic-nose-based
24/7 wireless odor monitoring network. These systems, software
and devices are exported worldwide.
Technologies
Featured in the Technology Showcase
ODOTECH commercializes innovative high-performance technologies
that precisely measure different aspects of odor problems, and
evaluate the dispersion of odors in the surrounding area.
OdoWatch™ : Electronic-nose-based 24/7 wireless
odor monitoring network
For years, ODOTECH has been solving odor problems of many different
kinds, as expert consultants to a wide range of clients.
Faced with all these specific problems requiring customized
solutions, we asked ourselves: What would be the ideal system
that could help solve all of these problems at the same time
?
OdoWatch™ is that system. It is not one technology but
half a dozen different advanced technologies integrated in order
to create the world's first electronic nose based 24/7 wireless
odor monitoring system.
OdoWatch™
Electronic Nose at the Montreal water treatment plant
Odowatch™ operation :
The e-noses continuously sample the air, analyze the odor print,
and transmit the signal to the Central Control Unit (CCU). At
the CCU, the software merges the continuously arriving odor
data with the incoming weather data to display on the screen
the odor plume, superimposed on a map of the site and its surroundings.
Because the odor plume is color-coded, the operator can tell
at a glance on the map what region is being impacted by odor
of what level.
When OdoWatch™ is fed weather forecast data, it will also
PREDICT the odor impact up to 24 hours ahead. The operator can
then see the odor impact on the vicinity 2, 4, 6 etc. hours
in advance. By taking appropriate steps, he can reduce odor
and prevent the predicted impact.
ODILE™
: Dynamic multifunction olfactometer
The Dynamic Dilution Olfactometer quantifies odors using a panel.
Its various electronic components fill several functions: presentation
of dilutions to the panel, continuous analysis of the results
and optimization of the preparation sequence of dilutions of
the gas samples.
Thanks to its multiple functionalities, ODILE is the only instrument
that quantifies odors using four different complementary techniques:
Odor
concentration and threshold determination;
Odor
suprathreshold determination with comparison to a reference
gas;
Hedonic
scale assessment to determine the degree of appreciation;
Evaluation
of the relative intensity of odors.
Potential
Applications
ODOTECH technology proposes solutions to verify compliance with
standards and regulations, to design waste collection sites,
to design equipment for odor mitigation, and to monitor the
performance of each.
ODOTECH technologies are designed for a wide range of customers
in many sectors of activity, including landfill and composting
facilities, processing of sewage and sludge, storage of re-usable
materials, pulp and paper industries, agrifood industries, and
any other odor-generating processes.
